  • An advanced class teaching resuscitation of a newborn
  • An online test must be completed prior to attending the class

The Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) offers education based on the 2017 American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)/American Heart Association (AHA) “Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care: Neonatal Resuscitation Guidelines.”  It is designed for any healthcare professionals involved in the delivery and care of newborns. The 2017 7th edition textbook is available for purchase.  You will receive the official AAP/AHA course completion card immediately upon successful completion of the course.

NRP STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE AN ONLINE EXAMINATION PRIOR TO ATTENDING THE NRP COURSE.

NRP has been reformatted to require students to take an active role in their learning. The new 7th Edition format requires that ALL STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE THE ONLINE 7TH EDITION NRP EXAMINATION PRIOR TO THEIR SCHEDULED CLASS. YOU MUST BRING YOUR COMPLETED EXAMINATION CERTIFICATE TO CLASS IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN THE NRP COURSE. THE NRP COURSE MUST BE TAKEN WITHIN 90 DAYS OF COMPLETING THE ONLINE EXAMINATION. Additionally, there is no longer a distinction between certification and renewal. All students will take the online examination and then participate in the same activities at the NRP Course. However, participation will be tailored to the experience of the student.
In order to complete the online examination, you will need to purchase or have access to the new textbook. Our students tell us that this is very important.  The textbook is available through our website at registration. A Study Guide with key points will be sent to you when you register for the course. However, it only covers the key points and will not provide sufficient information to pass the online examination. The textbook is 329 pages and includes a DVD to watch. Please allow enough study time prior to taking the examination and registering for your NRP Course.  Necessary study time varies by individual and experience.
NRP Course Components now include:
1.       Take the written examination online (required). When you sign up through Always Safe & Healthy, you will automatically receive one license for the examination that is included in the price of the course. Once you begin the test, you may exit and return to the test, but you only have 14 days to complete the test.  The exam is divided into nine lessons.  We recommend that you take all 9 lessons unless you are sure that you only need to complete 1-4 and 9.  Each lesson has approximately ten questions. You have two chances to pass each lesson. You may use your textbook while taking the test.  If you do not pass even one lesson after the second try, you will be required to purchase another license through www.healthstream.com/hlc/aap . The cost for an additional license is $35.
2.       NRP Course (required). You have 90 days from the completion date of your written examination to complete the NRP Course. Components of the NRP Course are:
·         Performance Skills Stations
·         Integrated Skills Station (required)
·         Simulation and Debriefing (required)
This is a NO STRESS learning time designed to learn/refresh skills of neonatal resuscitation, not a pass/fail testing session.

The online course takes about 1 to 2 hours to complete.  You will then call 844-307-3770 to schedule a time to demonstrate your skills to one of our instructors (representing part 2 of this 2 part course) within 60 days of completing the online course.

Maintaining a professional career as a Healthcare Provider can be challenging when scheduling and attending certification courses.  As a result, the American Heart Association has developed an official, self-directed, comprehensive eLearning program reflecting new science based on the 2010 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC.  Presented with a team dynamics lesson, 10 ACLS hospital-based case scenarios, the student will interact with the program, assessing each patient and formulate treatment based on 2015 ACLS guidelines and provide treatment.  The student will practice skills and testing at the Always Safe & Healthy training facility after successfully completing the online cognitive component and receive the ACLS Provider course completion card.

Benefits include an official American Heart Association eLearning course; immediate and objective evaluation/feedback; flexible certification process compared to a classroom based course; optional textbook expense; and realistic patient cases, and on the spot AHA Card upon successfully completing skills check.

HeartCode BLS uses the latest eSimulation technology to enable students to assess and treat patients in virtual healthcare settings. Utilizing a variety of eLearning assets such as dramatizations, eSimulations, animations, self-directed learning, and interactive activities, this course teaches BLS knowledge and skills.  This method of learning provides training consistency, adaptability to different learning styles, and flexibility for the student’s and employer’s time. Students can work at their own pace applying their knowledge to real-time decision making and skills development. Blended training also supports the need for hands-on learning of psychomotor skills. Debriefings and coaching are provided immediately after each simulation.
